The Nigeria Para-badminton Federation (NPBF) on Thursday has announced that two players are to represent the country at the 2017 Japan International Para-badminton Championship.

The President of NPBF, Samuel Ekeoma, said that the international body would provide the athletes with the required sponsorship grant.
The players, who will play for Nigeria at the event holding from September 5 to September 10, are Florence Okehie from Imo and Mabwat Nathan from Plateau State.
“This is a very good opportunity for these players who were selected at a recent trial in Imo, I believe will make good use of it to grow in the sport.
“It is their first major international competition outside Nigeria; it will definitely be impactful for both players.
“The aim of the grant by the world body is to increase female participation in the sport globally and we are grateful to benefit from it,’’ he said.
Ekeoma said that the federation was making efforts to ensure more physically challenged persons show interest in the sport.
“We want other athletes to feature in forthcoming competitions and gain more knowledge about the sport.
“The federation is bracing up for the task ahead; we are determined to woo more physically challenged persons to the sport,’’ he said.
He called on corporate bodies and philanthropists to assist the federation in the area of sponsorship and funding.
