UK to help Nigeria tackle unemployment

The United Kingdom is to assist the many unemployed youths in Nigeria secure jobs in order to explore their potentials, thus becoming more useful to the society.

Leader of a UK delegation of members of parliament, Mr Stephen Twig disclosed this during a courtesy visit to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo.

He stressed that the good friendship between the Nigeria and the United Kingdom was solid and would continue to blossom.

Jobs for the Youth
According to Twig, the UK will through its Department for International Development DFID look into ways of providing jobs for the youth, whom he said are very instrumental to the development of any society or country.

“The Friendship between United Kingdom and Nigeria is long standing and it was a privilege to meet the Vice President of Nigeria, to talk about the very important partnership between the two countries and how our Department for International Development can support Nigeria in creating jobs for the future and creating a fairer and more equal society as well,” Mr Twig stated.

He said the responses they got from Vice President Yemi Osinbajo were very impressive and encouraging.

“We were very impressed that the Vice President took questions on an extremely wide range of issues including education and malaria. He gave us well informed answers about opportunities for school children and young people. That dialogue between us parliamentarians and the Vice President is an important part of our visit to Nigeria this week,” he said.

More Collaboration
Mr Twig said Nigerians in Diaspora as well as state governments were key to the sustenance of the good working relationship between Nigeria and the UK.

“There is of course a large Nigerian Diaspora in the United Kingdom and the DFID has a very strong presence in Nigeria and works in partnership with the central government of Nigeria and the states as well,” The Leader of Delegation explained.

Since the coming on board of the current administration in Nigeria under the leadership of President Mohammadu Buhari, various delegations from the UK and other European countries have offered support in various ways, all aimed at enhancing the development of the country.
