Committee of Vice Chancellors in Nigeria has issued a directive to all universities to upload all authentic graduates for the 2016 Batch B Service Year.

The directive came following the National Youth Service Corps order to universities to mobilise only 33% of their fresh graduates for the 2016 Batch B service year.

The Committee of Vice Chancellors after its meeting with the Director General of NYSC, noted that the major challenge necessitating NYSC to partial mobilisation was its budgetary constraint with it, which it has made known to the government.

” Both parties acknowledge the overall immediate and long term implications and potential charges of partial mobilisation on the Nigerian Tertiary education system ,the graduates and the nation at large does not deserve any youth restiveness at this point in time ,and hence any decision that may precipitate imminent crises should be avoided”

” All authentic graduates of universities be uploaded by the universities for the NYSC to mobilise as appropriate . All institutions are enjoined to comply immediately and also ensure that `graduates ` of part time programmes and over aged graduates are NOT included in their list”

The CVC urged the government and the National Assembly to provide resources needed for full mobilisation to stave off the impending problems of partial mobilisation.

The Vice Chancellors advised further that government may wish to undertake a rethink of the future of the NYSC Scheme in which case a high level panel can be set up to review and fashion out a new concept of National Service that aligns with the expectations of government and the wishes of the teeming graduates and youths.

It added that Vice Chancellors are ready to be of service in this regard, and would mobilise the university system to provide the intellectual body for a review of the scheme.

The Committee however appealed to all graduates and prospective corps members to show understanding and exercise restraint ,while awaiting further directives from the NYSC.
