The National Universities Commission, NUC, says its meeting with bursars of federal institutions was to ensure that universities were better managed financially and adhered to uniformities in the implementation of regulations governing financial operations in the country.

The Executive Secretary of the Commission, Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed, said this in Abuja, during a workshop organised by the Commission for Bursars of Federal Universities on the new Economic Recovery and Growth Plan of the Federal Government.

Professor Rasheed said the significance of the meeting was to foster close collaboration with the Nigerian university system in the areas of implementing government accounting policies.

The meeting is “coming at a time when the present government is facing serious issues concerning revenue generation and management.

The significance of this meeting is to foster close collaboration with the National universities commission as a regulator and the Nigerian university system in areas of implementing government accounting policies, applications of extant federation circulars, budget preparation and also intervene in several challenges facing the Nigerian University System,” he said.

Professor Rasheed said the new Economic Recovery and Growth Plan, of the Federal Government should be of interest to federal universities and bursars.

“The need for universities to adhere to Presidential Orders and ensure the application of extant federal Circulars cannot be over emphasized as it provides the basis for the audit of universities’ accounts,” he explained.

Bursars of Federal Universities were also urged to address the need to adopt a common Accounting and Reporting Platform.
