The US Ambassador to Nigeria, Stuatrt Symingnton has reiterated the need for Nigerians to forget their differences and think about the unity and stability of the entire nation.

Symington, made the remark during his familiarisation visit to the Aminu Kano College of Islamic and Legal Studies in Kano state North western Nigeria, on Friday.

The Ambassador described Nigeria as a great country and important to the whole world with a lot of influence, a status that could be maintained, if only there is continuous unity among the people.

He said the unity could better be maintained if there is fairness and justice amongst the people.

”I urge you every day to think about the unity of the whole country and I have seen the way you seek to advance this notion. You must understand too that there is the need to carry justice along unity. Because, if there is no justice for all, then there is no justice for everyone.” advocated the Ambassador

He said there was the need also for everyone to learn, be fair and respect each other especially women.

”… it is how we treat each other that we can literally change the world, ” stressed Symington

He explained that the strength of every nation is not in just ideas or laws but in men and women who carry on with the political process of the nation.

“Every democracy is not just in its ideas; it is not even just in its laws. It is in the women, the men, the girls and the boys, who carry those ideas in them.”

”I also want to suggest to you that by learning, you and your whole nation and our world can live better,” advised the Ambassador.

In his remarks, the Provost of the institution, Professor Garba Shehu, said, the visit of the US Ambassador provided two excellent opportunities for the staff and students to interact on issues bordering on contemporary significance relating to development of higher education in the country and some challenges to be addressed.
