Nigeria’s safe hands and Super Eagle’s captain, Vincent Enyeama has been ranked the 18th best goal keeper in the world.
The ranking comes after a poll conducted by United Kingdom’s newspaper, The Telegraph, in which votes were cast to determine who the best goal keeper in the world will be.
Enyeama emerged the highest scoring goalkeeper in Euro Fantasy League with 20 clean sheets in 33 games and 560 points, despite his club, Lille, falling well adrift of Ligue 1’s leaders Paris Saint-Germain.
Bayern Munich’s Manuel Neuer, Manchester United’s David De’ Gea, Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois, Gianluigi Buffon, and Petr Cech featured highly on the list.
Salvatore Sirigu of PSG has 18 clean sheets in 33 games and ranks third on the Euro Fantasy League points list.
Neuer has conceded fewer goals than any top 10 goalkeeper but Enyeama’s 20 conceded is fewer than Cech’s 24 and substantially fewer than the 32 let in by Real Madrid’s Diego Lopez or the 31 of AS Saint-Etienne’s Stephane Ruffier.
Ligue 1 fairs rather well in the goalkeepers stakes with Enyeama and Sirigu joined by Ruffier to make the French league the joint-most represented.
Spain’s La Liga boasts of three representatives – Courtois, Lopez and Victor Valdes of Barcelona. Lopez has 15 clean sheets for Madrid this season, from 33 appearances.
Enyeama makes more saves on average than Lopez, but also keeping more clean sheets, which offers further evidence of the great season being enjoyed by Enyeama.
It would be recalled that Enyeama became only the second Nigerian footballer to attain the 100-cap mark, when he featured for the Eagles in the 1-0 defeat to Uganda in an international friendly in Uyo in March.
