Voice of Nigeria, VON, plans to advance its reach across the globe to meet the mandate for the establishment.
The organisation plans to transit from the shortwave broadcast and acquire modern equipments to meet up with emerging trends in international broadcasting.
VON Director General, Osita Okechukwu said this while speaking on the need for the organisation to enhance the image of Nigeria on the international scene especially Europe and the Americas.
“While we maintain the shortwave transmitters we met on the ground, we have to do an advancement to meet the world…In actual fact we are enhancing the mandate of Voice of Nigeria’s act of 1961,” he said.
Projecting Nigeria’s image
According to him, VON is poised to project the policies and plans of the Buhari government for Nigerians in the Diaspora and other friends of the country to be carried along in the new efforts to rebuild the nation as well as attract foreign investors.
“If you are to enhance the image of the country you need to tell the world that yes there is economic hardship but there is a change taking place, there is a President with his own roadmap on how to lift more people out of poverty in Nigeria, for you to do so if you rely only on shortwave you’ll end up broadcasting to Nigerians in Togo, Benin, Mali and other African countries only,” he explained.
The Director General reiterated the Buhari government’s commitment to bring change in all areas with the launch of the ‘change begins with me campaign’ and subsequent implementation of programmes embedded in the campaign.
