Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari will be represented by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, at the 27th African Union Summit, which opens this Sunday, in Kigali, Rwanda.
Vice President Osinbajo departed Nigeria on Friday for the summit, to also attend a retreat for African leaders on Saturday, ahead of Sunday’s opening of the summit.
The AU Summit’s theme is “African Year of Human Rights with a particular focus on the Rights of Women.”
2016 is also being celebrated by the AU as the Year of Human Rights, with the aim of raising awareness on human and peoples’ rights, particularly women’s rights, on the continent and taking stock of progress or efforts made, including major challenges and obstacles so far encountered.
A statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity says Professor Osinbajo, who is being accompanied by Finance Minister Mrs. Kemi Adeosun and Babagana Kingibe, among other functionaries, is expected back on Monday July 18.
