Wikki Tourists of were held to a goalless draw by visiting Enugu Rangers at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium in a Match Day 25 Nigeria Professional League game played in Bauchi, Northern Nigeria.
The home team took the game to the hosts with the trio of Godwin Obaje, Ibrahim Alhassan and Abubakar Lawal causing the Enugu Rangers backline all sort of troubles but without really testing Nana Bonsu in goal for the visitors.
However, Bonsu, was called into action by Ibrahim Alhassan twice in two minutes just before the hour mark but the Ghanaian was up to the task producing two smart stops to thwart Wikki’s mid-season acquisition.
Bonsu almost cost his team a goal few minutes before the break when he misjudged the flight of a cross but recovered to tip the ball over the bar.
Despite all of Wikki’s dominance the best chance of the half fell to Enugu Rangers when Chisom Egbuchulam profited from a defensive mix up to get behind the backline of the home team but with goalkeeper Emeka Nwabulu at his mercy he failed to hit the target.
That chance was the last meaningful action of the first half as both teams headed into the dressing room level at 0-0 after the first 45 minutes.
Wikki returned for the second half of the encounter a better organised team than in the first but the defence of Enugu Rangers marshalled by Kalu Orji and Aziz Camara denied them space to wreak havoc.
The home team kept on probing and almost got the breakthrough their dominance deserved but Idris Guda’s goal-bound effort was cleared off the line by Christian Madu with Bonsu beaten.
In the third minute of time added on, Obaje almost made Rangers pay for that miss by reacting quickly to a loose ball from a corner kick but his left-footed effort on the turn came off the bar with Bonsu well beaten this time round.
Obaje’s late miss summed up what was a frustrating evening for the league leaders against the Enugu-based side who defeated them 1-0 in the reverse fixture of this tie.
