Wikki Tourists thrashed FC Ifeanyiubah 2-1 in the opening fixture of the Nigeria Professional Football League Super Four competition at the Nnamdi Azikwe Stadium, on Wednesday.
Yaya Kone netted the opener for FC Ifeanyiubah from the spot in the 55th minute, while Shamah Tanze equalised for Wikki six minutes from time.
Abdullai Musa netted the winner in stoppage time for Mohammed Babaganaru’s men.
Wikki Tourists started the game brightly and carved out the first chance of the encounter on four minutes through Bature Yaro but his shot was blocked on the line by Akakem Onyekachi.
Idris Sabo also came close to netting the opener for the Bauchi Elephants two minutes later but his well struck shot sailed over the bar.
Federation Cup winners, FC Ifeanyiubah, responded with a chance of their own with former Nigeria junior international King Osanga having his goal-bound shot cleared on the line by Mustapha Ibrahim.
Wikki dominated the remaining parts of the first half with FC IfeanyiUbah, who are now coached by Japanese-American trainer Kenichi Yatsuhaghi, struggling to make much impact in the game.
Bature wasted a glorious chance to put Wikki ahead eight minutes from time when he shot wide after he was set up by Tanze.
The pattern of play however changed in the second half with FC Ifeanyiubah seizing the initiative with Osanga coming close once again.
They were awarded a penalty 10 minutes into the second half when Osanga was hacked down in the box by Musa which was converted by Kone Yaya.
IfeanyiUbah were reduced to 10 men in the 61st minute when Akakem was give his second yellow card for handball
Wikki took advantage to win the game with two late goals from Tanze and Musa.
FC Ifeanyiubah will face Rivers United in their next game on Friday, while Wikki Tourists will take on league champions, Enugu Rangers the same day.
