World Conference of Banking Institutes to improve education ,banking

The 22nd World Conference of Banking Institutes (WCBI) is underway at Eko Hotels and Suites Victoria Island, Lagos.

The Conference has brought together professionals from financial services industry and other stakeholders engaged in banking operation, education and training for a two-day robust discourse on changing the dynamics in banking.

Speaking on the theme titled: “Re-thinking the future of banking and finance & lifelong learning,” the President, Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), Professor Segun Ajibola said the event aims to provide a platform for banking institutes to appraise the achievements and challenges being faced by the banking sub-sector globally and also effectively enhance the financial sector’s performance.

Ajibola said this is the third time the conference which started in 1975 is taking place in Africa and first in West Africa sub-region and being hosted by Nigeria.

He observed that as the world is changing fast there is need for banking and finance practitioners and stakeholders to engage in banking, education and trainings.

In an interview with the CIBN Boss, Professor Ajibola said the conference is an opportunity for bankers to come together to discuss issues considered to be topical to the bank practitioners, operators, regulators and even academia in banking and finance across the globe.

Prof. Ajibola noted that the vision of the conference would help shape the education curriculum in the future of banking and financing in Nigeria.

He also revealed that the delegates from over 100 countries across the globe will visit tourism sites in the country to help boost the Nigeria economy.

Also, at the opening session traditional rulers reiterated the need for restructuring of banking education to meet up with global best practices.

The Sessions include, amongst others: Envisioning the Future of Banking & Finance in the Global Economy; Re-Professionalisms Banking through Continuing Education; Dynamics of Competition: Present and Future; and The Need for & Role of Banking/Finance Standards: Global, Regional & National.

The conference also featured exhibition among banks and other financial institutions.
