Wrestling: Adekuoroye aims for Gold in Egypt

Nigeria’s Commonwealth  gold medallist, Odunayo Adekuoroye says she will not relax as she aims for the best at the 2016 African Wrestling Championships in Alexandria, Egypt.

The competition is scheduled to take place in the Egyptian city from M arch 2 to March 6.

Adekuoroye said who will compete in the women’s freestyle and would work hard to win the title in her category.

The other female wrestlers from Nigeria are Blessing Onyebuchi, Blessing Oborodudu, Aminat Adeniyi, Hannah Reuben, Rosemary Nweke, Mercy Genesis and Ifeoma Nwoye.

The Nigerian team, which also has eight male wrestlers have arrived Egypt.

Adekuoroye also said the preparations for the competition would help her achieve her targets.

She said, “Everybody is looking forward to doing well at the competition. The spirit in camp is very positive and with that in mind we know that nothing but Olympic qualification will be achieved.

“I know that my opponents will be seeking to beat me and I have to be careful. I want to come back from Egypt with the title in my weight category and I want to use it as a part of my preparations for the Olympics.

“It will not be an easy outing but I believe with God, I will achieve success at the competition. Nigeria will do well in Egypt because our wrestlers are some of the best in Africa. The other countries are looking to beat us but since we have the backing of our president, Daniel Igali, and the support of Nigerians, we will not disappoint the country.”
