Yusuf names squad for La Liga tour

NPFL All-Star team head coach Salisu Yusuf has named Enyimba goalkeeper Theophilus Afelokhai in the final 25-man squad to play on the friendly tour of Spain.

Included on the list are Enugu Rangers’ Obinna Nwobodo, Rabiu Ali (Kano Pillars), Ifeanyi Ifeanyi (MFM FC), Chinedu Udoji (Enyimba), Austin Oboroakpo (Abia Warriors), Joseph Osadiaye (Enyimba), Chisom Egbuchulam (Enugu Rangers), among others.

Yusuf said the selection was based on the players’ performances in the two-week camping in Abuja.

The League Management Company (LMC) said Enyimba players in the All-Star team will travel directly from Egypt after their Caf Champions League fixture at Zamalek.

LMC chairman Shehu Dikko said the idea is to give Enyimba full complement of their players for the African campaign.

“It is to ensure that the country’s remaining representative in the continental competition have the full complement of their best players in this crucial encounter,” said Dikko to npfl.ng.

LMC said all the 25 players have been notified that the last phase of camping begins on Monday in Abuja.

“They are to report back to camp on Monday, August 1 and would travel from camp on August 8,” said the LMC.

Fixtures released showed that the NPFL All-Star team will play their first match against La Liga side, Valencia CF on August 10 inside the Alzira Stadium in the city of Valencia.
