Zamfara Government said it is partnering with the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in mobilizing communities on health-related issues. The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prof. Abdullahi Shinkafi, made this known at a quarterly meeting on “Hard to Reach (HTR) communities” organized by UNICEF in Gusau.
The SSG said “we have realized that over time, we have been concentrating on curative measures on diseases which is why we developed a new programme on preventive measures campaign.”
He added that the state government has already set up a committee to be headed by the SSG with members including commissioners, traditional rulers and the Sokoto Field Officer of UNICEF.
Shinkafi commended the fund for reaching out to the hard to reach communities and supporting them with healthcare services and he noted that “the state government is taking necessary steps to sustain the programme as UNICEF rounds up the HTR programme.”
Earlier, the UNICEF Sokoto Field Officer, Mr. Muhammad Muhiuddin, said the fund had in the last one year reached out to and sustained the provision of healthcare services to 250 communities.
He said the fund would continue to support the state government in ways like the introduction of mobile clinics and mobilization “so that communities would be catered for under the healthcare services provision.”
