Angola to Launch Affordable Housing Project in June

The first phase of a government financed affordable housing project in Angola is scheduled to be completed in June, according to the presidency.

The first phase involves the construction of 500 dwellings, half of the planned 1,000 houses to be put up in Ekuma centrality, Cunene province.

The June timeline was revealed by the contractor to President João Lourenço who is in the region on an official visit.

According to the project contractor, Mr João Aleixo said that “From the regulatory point of view, the work is at an advanced stage and the infrastructures are all completed. Therefore, we are in a position to fulfill our objective of making the first deliveries in the month of June.”

The project has utilized 21 hectares of land and is expected to house approximately 7,000 inhabitants.

Social Amenities

It will incorporate other amenities such as a children’s center, primary school, kindergarten, secondary school, police station, a football field and a health center.

With the incorporation of these amenities, the Ekuma housing project is expected to become a model for future housing works in the Southern African country.
