The Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry has awarded Dangote cement, Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas(NLNG) and Airtel Nigeria, as winners of the 2016 excellence award.
Dangote Cement got the award on outstanding company, NLNG has the award for best cooperate social responsibility company and Airtel Nigeria was awarded most innovative business idea company.
“Excellence Awards“is a platform to celebrate businesses and corporate organisations that have contributed to economic development in Nigeria.
The president of the Chamber, Mr. Tony Ejikeonye stressed the need to build excellence.
On her part, a Former Minister of Education, Dr Oby Ezekwesili in her keynote address called on entrepreneurs and private companies in Nigeria to imbibe ethical values of integrity, transparency in the conduct of their businesses.
“Ethical value in your company is what will cause your companies to be celebrated by generations after generations. I will be glad to celebrate the awards that you receive and it is that consistency that I want to celebrate in you tonight,” she said.
Dr Oby Ezekwesili went further to explain that “Values cannot be bought with money, so I challenge you, those of you who are being celebrated to abstain from poor governance which manifest as corruption; it is the greatest obstacle to the Nigeria development.”
She explained that the private sector was key to economic growth and development; as such efforts must be made to remove barriers inhibiting the performance of private businesses.
She added that it was important for policy markers to understand that there were barriers that stood in the ways for companies to excel.
