200 Golfers battle for Plateau State Governor’s Cup

Over 200 professional and amateur golfers across the country are in Plateau State for the Governor’s Cup tournament, which kicked off in Jos on Monday.

The golfers were welcomed to Jos by the State Governor, Simon Lalong, who unveiled the redesigned oldest golf course in Nigeria, Rayfield 1913.

During the opening at  Rayfield, Governor Lalong said golf was associated with the historical role that mining played in the development of Plateau State and Nigeria at large.

He said; ”the redesigned Rayfield golf course was a legacy his administration would leave for the sport in the state, adding to its potential as a destination for leisure, business and hospitality.”

Captain, Rayfield Golf Club, Air Commodore Lazarus Mshelia (retd.) said over 200 professional and amateur players from across the country were participating in the tournament.

He appreciated Lalong for developing golf in Plateau, which he said had brought in more players and created an opportunity for repositioning the image of the state.

Tournament Director, Professional Golfers Association of Nigeria, JohnBull Dangofa said the event had shown early signs of a spectacular sporting fiesta.
