2021 International Women’s Day: Ebonyi Sets To End Female Genital Mutilation

The Ebonyi State Ministry of women Affairs and Social Development
in collaboration with United Nations Spotlight Initiative have called on individuals in various localities in the State to report any case of female genital mutilation (FGM).

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Nwali Florence made this Known as the ministry joins its counterpart in world to commemorate this 2021 International Women’s Day in Abakaliki the state capital.

She said that Ebonyi State Government through the office of the Wife of the Governor, Rachael Umahi has done much in ensuring that FGM is eradicated.

“As I talk to you the case of female genital mutilation FGM is rare in the State, it has been crushed to zero level,”  she said.

Nwali said in terms of appointment of women into political offices, the state has done well.

The State Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Chief  Elizabeth Ogbaga called on women to always support each other adding that women are nation builders.

“Ebonyi Government has done a lot to ensure that women are empowered above just doing unskilled jobs,” she said.

She urged women to rise up and take their responsibilities in the society.

The Director in the Ministry, Macilina Ibina said the target of the Ministry is to see that every Ebonyi woman is empowered.

“Our young girls must be hardworking because they are the hope for tommorow, they should desist from any act that can jeopardize their future,” she said.

The representative of persons with disabilities, Agbo Elizabeth urged her members to be courageous that there is always abilities in disabilities.

The representative of female medical students, Nome Comfort urged Ministry of women Affairs to ensure proper education and enlightment of rural girls on how to handle sexual molestation and their rights.
