2021 Supplementary Budget Bill scales second reading

Nigeria’s 2021 Supplementary Budget Bill has passed the second reading at the House of Representatives.

In the proposed eight hundred and ninety-five billion naira supplementary budget, over one hundred and seventy-three point four billion naira was for recurrent expenditure while seven hundred and twenty-two point four billion naira was for contribution to the development fund for capital expenditure.

“The Supplementary Budget 2021 of Eight Hundred and Ninety-Five Billion, Eight Hundred and Forty-Two Million, Four Hundred and Sixty-Five Thousand, Nine Hundred and Seventeen Naira only (N895, 842, 465,917:00), out of which, One Hundred and Seventy-Three Billion, Four Hundred and Forty-Four Million, Five Hundred and Six Thousand, Six Hundred and Sixty-Four Naira only (N173,444,506,664:00) is for Re Current while Seven Hundred and Twenty-Two Billion, Three Hundred and Ninety-Six Million, Nine Hundred and Fifty-Nine Thousands, Two Hundred and Fifty-Three Naira is for Contribution to Development Funds for Capital Project.”

Presenting the supplementary budget bill, the Leader of the House, Alhassan Ado-Doguwa urged the lawmakers to expedite action in passing the budget.

“I urged you to expedite action to pass this budget because of its exigency and importance.” Doguwa pleaded.

The Supplementary Budget was to take care of the emerging needs in the health and security Sectors in relation to Covid-19 Vaccine Supply and the current security challenges.

Speaker Femi Gbajabiamila reiterated the National Assembly’s commitment to passing the supplementary budget bill before the lawmakers embark on annual recess on July 15th.
