Super Eagles and Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho has been named the Premier League Player of the Month for March 2021.

The Nigerian international has been in outstanding form for Leicester City, scoring five goals in three matches and helping his team secure seven points from a possible nine.

Iheanacho was one of eight players shortlisted for the award and beat Andreas Christensen (Chelsea), Harry Kane (Tottenham Hotspur), Jesse Lingard (West Ham United), Riyad Mahrez (Manchester City), Illan Meslier (Leeds United), Luke Shaw (Manchester United) and Leandro Trossard (Brighton & Hove Albion) to the accolade.

Iheanacho was on target against Burnley, then got on the scoresheet again when Leicester City beat Brighton & Hove 2-1 away from home, before scoring his first-ever Premier League hat-trick in a 5-0 demolition of Sheffield United at the King Power stadium.

“I feel great, its not easy to do but i am really happy to win it for the first time in my career,” Iheanacho said. “I didn’t expect that, i wasn’t expecting it but i thank God that its happened in my life.”

“I’m really grateful and happy. Hopefully, i will keep working really hard to make sure there is more to come.”

Iheanacho is the fourth Nigerian player to win the Premier League Player of the Month award after Jay-Jay Okocha, Peter Odemwingie and Odion Ighalo.

The Foxes are next in Premier League action against league leaders Manchester City at King Power Stadium on Saturday.
