Nigerian Customs to intensify fight against smuggling in the North East

The CGC Strike Force, Zone B with headquarters in Kaduna headed by Deputy Controller Olorukoba Oseni Aliyu says no amount of security challenges posed by bandits and militants  particularly in the North East of Borno, Maiduguri, Yobe, Yola, Bauchi, North West and North Central will deter them from performing their activities of curbing smuggling in the country.

DC Aliyu made this declaration during an interview with VON in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital North Central Nigeria where his strike force team intercepted 513 bags of foreign par boiled  rice with a Duty Paid Value of  Twenty Two million,  five hundred and eighty one thousand, five hundred Naira. (N22,581,500).

According to him, the security challenges in the Northern part of the country will not deter his strike force from effective performance of their duties to rescue the nation’s economy from unpatriotic elements who see smuggling as their legitimate business.

The Customs boss assured Nigerians that the Strike Force team will not rest or relent until smuggling is wiped out in the Northern zone of the country.

He disclosed that recently, millions of contrabands made up of foreign rice, foreign jericans of vegetable oil, used clothing materials and  used vehicles (tokunbo) were  intercepted by his team in Kano and Katsina axis in the North West zone of the country.

DC Aliyu commended the CGS, Retired Colonel Hameed Ibrahim Ali  and his management team for the encouragement given to his Strike Force to perform their official duties but however,  appealed to patriotic Nigerians to join hands with the team in further curbing smuggling.

He assured that such information will be treated with utmost confidentiality.

According to him, the Nigeria Customs Service is very strategic in the sustenance of the nation’s economy at this stage of economic development, hence maximum revenue generation is paramount in the heart of the present leadership of the service.
