The Governor of Ebonyi State Southeast Nigeria, Engr David Umahi has countered allegations that the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has been responsible for the killing of police officers, burning of police stations and taking away arms and ammunition in the state.

Governor Umahi stated this while addressing Journalists on the rate of insecurity in the state at the State Executive Council Chambers in Abakaliki, the state capital.

Umahi said neither the Eastern Security Network ESN nor IPOB is responsible for the killings and destructions of lives and properties in the state.

“IPOB has spoken severally saying that anybody who kills Police should be killed, pointing out that they are not responsible for any killing in the State,” Umahi noted.

He appealed to the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 9, Mr Etim Ene Okon to be resolute in delivering his duty in the zone.

“Before anybody should be arrested out of the state, I should know to avoid innocent people being detained over nothing,” Umahi remarked.

Umahi alleged that the killing of Police and other insecurity in the state is being masterminded by some politicians in Peoples’ Democratic Party PDP in the State who claim to be in the opposition.

PDP counters Umahi

Meanwhile, the Chairman People’s Democratic Party PDP, Elder Fred Udeogu has countered the allegation saying the Governor, Engr David Umahi, is being mischievous.

“Governor Umahi should stop being childish and face the situation in the state. He should rather map out strategy to end the insecurity in the State instead of looking for whom to be alleged,” Udeogu said.

He said members of the People’s Democratic Party PDP who are in the National Assembly are too responsible to have been responsible for the killing of Police in the state.
