Victor Osimhen Rescues Point for Napoli Against Leicester
By Chidi Nwoke.
Super Eagles and Napoli striker Victor Osimhen scored twice as the Italians came from 2-0 down to salvage a 2-2 draw against Leicester during a Europa League match at the King Power Stadium.
Nigerian international Kelechi Iheanacho started upfront for the foxes, with Patson Daka and Harvey Barnes supporting on the flanks. Osimhen was in attack for Napoli, with Lorenzo Insigne and Hirving Lozano in support.
Leicester got off to a great start against the Italian giants when Ayoze Perez fired opened the scoring after a Harvey Barnes cross found him after nine minutes.
Patson Daka then saw his first Leicester goal ruled out by a VAR review for a marginal offside call, but Barnes quickly put that disappointment behind Brendan Rodgers’ men with an excellent finish to double Leicester’s lead.
Napoli boss Luciano Spalletti held nothing in reserve with his strongest side and the visitors responded in the final quarter thanks to Osimhen. The Nigerian brilliantly flicked the ball over the imposing presence of Jannik Vestegaard and Kasper Schmeichel to get Napoli back in the game.
Osimhen then outjumped Caglar Soyuncu to power home a head for a deserved equaliser in the 87th minute to make the scores 2-2.
Leicester’s night then got worse in stoppage time when Super eagles midfielder Wilfred Ndidi was sent off in stoppage time for a second bookable offence. The match finished 2-2.
