Kanu Secures Victory For Super Falcons Against Ghana

Uchenna Kanu scored the two goals as the Super Falcons of Nigeria defeated the Black Queens of Ghana 2-0 in the first leg of their 2022 Africa Women Cup of Nations qualifier at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena in Onikan, Lagos on Wednesday.

The nine-time African champions, Nigeria, controlled the opening minutes of the match as they dominated possession.

Kanu got the Super Falcons off to a brilliant start with the opening goal in the 20th minute, courtesy of an assist from Francisca Ordega.

The hosts continued to create more chances as they looked to extend the lead. 5 minutes later, they were rewarded after a brilliant piece of play

The Sweden-based forward, Kanu, doubled the lead for Nigeria after linking up with Toni Payne.

The first half ended with a two-goal lead for Nigeria as Ghana had no answers.

In the second half, Nigeria kept pushing for a third goal. Barcelona talisman Asisat Oshoala was pulling the strings for the Super Falcons but couldn’t find the back of the net.

Desire Oparanozie was later brought on to replace goalscorer Kanu as Nigeria held on for a comfortable first-leg advantage.

The Super Falcons will hope to build on the win when they travel to Accra for the return leg on Sunday.
