Service of Nine Lessons, Carols: Archbishop sues for unity

Nigerians have been called upon to unite in peace love and harmony for the development of the country.

The Catholic Arch Bishop of Abuja, His grace most Reverend Ignatius Kaigama stated this at the Service of Nine Lessons and Carols held in Abuja Nigeria.

His Grace Archbishop Kaigama said the spirit of Christmas should inspire peace and doing good despite religious and cultural differences “we must walk together to restore fraternity and friendship in Nigeria we should be thinking of peace and pray not planning war, we want peace to flow like a river”.

The Catholic Archbishop of Abuja added that for Nigerians to achieve the much-needed transformation, people must forgive each other.

We must learn to apologise and admit our crimes committed to each other and learn to appreciate and accept diversity in culture by tolerating each other and have the spirit of forgiveness’’. He explained that “God has made us instrument of peace to achieve the much needed transformation we need to forgive each other,” he explained.

The Nigerian Vice President Professor Yemi Osinbajo reminded Nigerian Media of their social responsibility towards national development and deepening the nation’s democracy.

The Vice President was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Mr. Boss Mustapha.

“As a major stake holder in Nigeria you have a responsibility not only to uphold the ethics of journalism as a profession especially in a multi ethnic multi religious society like ours in Nigeria but to abide by the ideals that will strengthen social discuss, national identity and rejuvenation”.

The Vice President urged the media to maintain high standard that can match the best anywhere in the world.

“You also owe the public a duty to discourage the worst in society and promote ideas of social justice, fairness and equity, this is even more important now in the edge of digital technology while millions can access all kinds of information at a click of button, the media especially broadcast media has a major responsibility to keep the public educated enlightened and informed about national and global issues” .

The service of Nine Lessons and Carols was organised by Radio Nigeria, Nigerian Television Authority and Voice of Nigeria with the Theme “Peace be Still”.
