The Nigerian Senate has passed for second reading, the 2022 Appropriation Bill of over sixteen trillion naira and referred it to the Committee on Appropriations.
This was sequel to the consideration and debate on the general principles of the Appropriation Bill by Senators, most of whom were critical of the borrowing plan as contained in the Budget.
President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan stressed the need for government to invest more in Nigerian youths with emphasis on sectors such as education, health, & the ICT so as to fast track the much desired socio-economic advancement.
Senator Lawan also tasked the three committees oversighting the oil and gas industry to ensure effective implementation of the petroleum industry Act, while urging all the Lawmakers to be more purposeful in their oversight duties.
Thereafter, the Senate adjourned the plenary for three weeks to enable the committees to carry out budget defence sessions with the Ministries, Departments & Agencies (MDAs) of the government within the allotted period.
The Senators are expected to reconvene in Plenary on Tuesday November nine, 2021.
