The Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has presented the sum of over Two Hundred and Thirty-three Billion Naira (N233bn) as the budget for the year 2022.
In his presentation, Gov. El-Rufai proposed the sum over N146 billion as capital and N87.6 billion as recurrent expenditures, which represents 63 percent and 37 percent of the budget size respectively.
He highlighted that the health sector will receive the sum of over N35 billion, while the education sector will get N68.4 billion. Over N5 billion wull go as contribution to the local government account, which constitutes 10 percent of the budget, among others.
In his response, the Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Hon.Yusuf Ibrahim Zailani, expressed satisfaction with with the budget, noting that it is geared towards the needs of the common man.
“The common man constitutes 89.5 percent of the population in Kaduna State, while the elites constitute the remaining percent.
“It is a must to appreciate the governor for the work he has been doing, especially the urban renewal development projects.
“We equally appreciate our members at the Senate and House of Representatives for a job well done in ensuring that loan is given to Kaduna State, which is used in doing these projects.
“…As from today, I assure the common man that the sitting in the assembly will be conducted in Hausa Language so that the common man will have a better understanding of whatever we say,” the speaker added.
The proposed budget was, however, referred by the Speaker to the Committee on Budget and Appropriation for in-depth study.
