Cocoa Farmers to Unveil Practice Handbook


To boost the productivity of its members and enhance the contribution of cocoa to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the agricultural sector, the Cocoa Farmers Association of Nigeria (CFAN) has said it will unveil an agricultural practice handbook in January 18.


The development was disclosed by the President of the association, Adeola Adegoke, noting that the association would open its new secretariat at POW Mafemi Crescent, Utako, Abuja. Also, Adegoke said the association would be unveiling the communique of a cocoa summit held in November and December 2021 in Abuja, which would proffer a solution to some of the issues faced in the subsector.


“There will be launching of Good Agronomic Practices (GAP) training handbook for the Nigerian smallholder cocoa farmers and the commencement of the implementation of international acceptable regulations on child labour eradication, traceability, certification, afforestation/cocoa plantation management and the protection of our biodiversity in the cocoa plantation.”


He said the association would set up a national task force to ensure quality cocoa and control child labour, traceability, data gathering and protection of the ecosystem among smallholder cocoa farmers and cocoa-producing states, cocoa plantations and cocoa communities.
