2023: APC Senator defects to SDP

The Senator representing Nasarawa North Senatorial District, Senator Godiya Akwashiki  has defected to the Social Democratic Party, SDP from the All Progressives Congress, APC.

The National Chairman of social Democratic Party, SDP, Mr Shehu Gabam, while receiving the Senator at the SDP National Secretariat in Abuja Nigeria’s Capital, said he is “glad to welcome Senator Godiya Akwashiki to the Social Democratic Party on behalf of the entire NWC of the party”.

The National Chairman of the SDP said the Senator is currently the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Inter-parliamentary Affairs and Vice Chairman of the Media and Public Affairs Committee in the Nigerian Senate.

Godiya Akwashiki who hails from Angba Iggah of Nasarawa State North-central Nigeria, was elected into the Senate in 2019.

Akwashiki, was earlier elected into Nasarawa State House of Assembly under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party.

During his first term (2011-2015), he was the Majority Leader in the Nasarawa State House of Assembly.

In his second term (2015-2019), he was appointed the Deputy Speaker of the State Assembly, a position he held until 2019, when under the All Progressives Congress (APC), he contested for and won the Nasarawa North Senatorial Seat.
