A Professor of Islamic Studies, Badmas Lanre Yusuf, has called for the probe of aspirants who obtained presidential nomination forms of political parties for a sum of N100million ahead of the 2023 general elections.

He said such individuals should be investigated and handed over to either the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) or Independent Corrupt Practices and other offences related Commission (ICPC) for further action.

Yusuf, a former Dean, Postgraduate School, University of Ilorin, spoke on the sidelines of the Juma’ah service, which he led on Friday at Hilal Crescent Mosque, Offa Road, GRA, Ilorin.

He observed that the N100million presidential nomination forms were enough to pay the salaries of a University Professor for 20 years.

The Professor of Islamic Studies regretted that the government was leaving the atmosphere very rough with the colossal sum political parties pegged their nomination forms for would-be aspirants.

He maintained that they fixed the nomination forms at an amount beyond the reach of interested individuals with the sincere intention to turn around the nation’s fortunes for good.

Yusuf advocated a critical reform of the society to prepare for the change of guard in 2023, warning that the forthcoming general elections would lack foundation if no steps were taken.

The Professor of Islamic Studies, whose Juma’ah sermon was premised on the aftermath of the Ramadan fast, urged the Muslim faithfuls to internalise their qualities during the holy month by helping the less privileged and avoiding social vices.
