The Secretary-General of the Nigerian Youths Congress (NYC), Dr. Raymond Edoh, has charged Nigerian youths to successfully and peacefully conduct themselves in the forthcoming general election, which will hold tentatively between February 25 and March 11, 2023.
Dr. Edoh stated this in an interview with the Voice of Nigeria Correspondent on the programme themed “Youths Inclusion in Nigerian Politics.”
While appealing to Nigerian youths for a successful election, he stated that they would join hands together to make the forthcoming election peaceful.
“Please, Nigeria youths, I want us to make this election the best election ever in the history of Africa, and come 2023, one of us is going to emerge the leader of Nigeria,” he said
Speaking further, he stated that the youths had been left behind in political movements and awareness over time.
“The youths of this country are so backward in the affairs of this country. The government needs to come to the rescue.”
He noted that many youths don’t know the processes of getting involved in politics.
According to him, NYC has held many sensitisation and awareness programs. This is to keep the youths abreast of what is going on with the government, especially between the government and the youths.
He stated that the youths are unified in their campaign concerning what they want, and youths at the helm of the country’s affairs, as recycled administration in Nigeria, should not be allowed to continue.
“2023 is going to be a change for the youths of this country if only we will cooperate together. We need someone in power who understands the language of the youths.”
Speaking on the high number of youths involved in criminal activities, he advised youths to shun criminal acts, as this would affect the country’s development.
He appealed to the government to give the youths an enabling environment where they can get involved in training to curtail criminal activities amongst the youths in the country.
Edoh commended President Muhammadu Buhari as the only leader that has given attention to the youths, but this has not been delivered to them.
He, therefore, appealed to the President to help give the All Progressives Congress a youthful candidate as the flag bearer of the party.
“If President Muhammadu Buhari will give us a youthful leader to emerge as the flag bearer of All Progressives Congress, we will make it happen. If it is his choice to do that for us, the Nigerian youths will remember him forever.”
Speaking on what the NYC wants from the country’s government, he said what the Congress wants between the government and youths is an enabling environment for the youths.
