The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC in Nigeria says Corps Members’ participation in the conduct of the 2023 elections is voluntary.
This was disclosed by the Acting Director General of NYSC, Mrs Christy Uba while interacting with Corps Members at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Iyana-Ipaja, Lagos State, South-West Nigeria.
The Acting Director General warned all Corps Members that would serve as electoral officers during the elections to be impartial in the discharge of their election duties.
She also advised them to be diligent, firm and selfless in their assignments during the 2023 population census adding that their predecessors participated in different national exercises creditably which earned the Scheme commendations.
Mrs Uba commended the founding fathers of the Scheme and Nigerian youths for heeding the call for national service, which has further unified people from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds.
She urged the Corps Members to initiate impactful community development service projects that would improve the living standard of their host communities after leaving the Orientation Camp.
While giving camp situation report, the NYSC Lagos State Coordinator, Mrs. Yetunde Baderinwa applauded the unity among the Corps Members since they arrived the camp.
She also expressed gratitude to the Lagos State Government for its support for the Scheme, especially the supply of double bed bunks and mattresses at the Orientation Camp.
“To expand our accommodation, the Lagos State Government donated 50 double bunks, 100 mattresses and 100 pillows for the comfort of our Corps Members,“ she said.
Baderinwa added that a total of 3,907 Corps Members were registered comprising 1,474 males and 2,433 females.
She disclosed that some Lagos State Corps Members were dislodged to neighbouring Ogun and Oyo State Orientation Camps for their three weeks Orientation Course.
