The former governor of Gombe State, Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, has emerged solely as the candidate for Gombe North Senatorial District under the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the forthcoming 2023 general elections.

Dankwambo won the Senate ticket by consensus. Two of his opponents, Usman Bayero Nafada and Sa’idu Hamma Saleh, stepped down and unanimously adopted him as a consensus candidate by the PDP delegates.
The former governor had contested the senatorial seat during the 2019 general elections. Still, Senator Sa’idu Ahmed Alkali, the incumbent Senator, defeated him and represented Gombe North, Senatorial District, under All Progressive Congress APC.
The PDP Senate primary election committee, led by Habu Zarma, organised and conducted the primary elections at the Gombe North PDP Zonal office in Malam Sidi Kwami’s local government area.

From Gombe Central Senatorial District, Mr. Abubakar Aliyu emerged as the Senatorial Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, defeating two other aspirants, Mr. Muhammadu Baba Aliyu and Senator Muhammad Danjuma Goje, with 59 votes.

Declaring the results in Kumo, the Headquarters of Akko Local Government Area, the Electoral Officer, Mr. Haruna Mamuda, declared that 66 delegates were accredited, out of which Aliyu scored 59. In contrast, Mr. Muhammadu Baba Aliyu scored three votes, while four were invalid votes.

The Electoral Officer said the peaceful nature of the election showed that the PDP in the State was united ahead of the 2023 general election.

The PDP Candidate, Aliyu, told journalists that the primaries showed that the party was united and that the victory was for the entire party.

The Gombe Central Zonal Vice Chairman of PDP, Mr. Garba Gwani, said Senator Danjuma Goje, whose name was among the list of contestants and the current Senator Representing the APC, was among the contestants but did not turn up for the primary election Kumo, thereby scoring zero votes.

From Gombe South Senatorial District, Anthony Siyako scored 59 votes to defeat Ms. Binta Bello, who polled 57 votes.

Meanwhile, about 114 delegates affirmed Dankwambo as the sole candidate to contest as Senator for the Gombe North Senatorial District, in the forthcoming general elections 2023, under Peoples Democratic Party PDP.
Farouk Yerma is the returning officer of Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo. He thanked the delegates and party leaders for supporting his candidate.
He called on the people of Gombe State to vote for PDP and make sure the party returns to power in the zone and State at large.
The party leader, Jamilu Isiyaku Gomna, who is also seeking the ticket of PDP to contest as governor in forthcoming elections 2023, commended the committee and process of the primary election.
He called on the people to continue supporting his party and Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo, the senatorial candidate of Gombe North.
