The Nigerian Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Godswill Akpabio, says he has no interest in contesting for Presidency in the 2023 General Election.

The Minister, a former governor of Akwa-Ibom State, stated this while speaking to journalists after a closed-door meeting with the Abdullahi Adamu-led National Working Committee of the governing All Progressives Congress, APC, in Abuja.

THE MINISTER STATES HIS MAIN INTEREST IN NIGERIA

Mr Akpabio said his primary interest is to help President Muhammadu Buhari realise the goals of the APC government by ensuring peace in the Niger Delta region.

“We want to continuously interact with each other, discuss issues and ensure the peace of that region.

“I can tell you that south-south today is one of the country’s peaceful regions, and we want to keep it that way.

“So there is no doubt that my job has not ended.

“My job is to continue to support Mr President, not just to ensure the completion of his legacy projects, but also to ensure that his projects and legacy lead beyond 2023,” Akpabio said.

The Minister expressed optimism that the APC’s new leadership will lead the party to victory in 2023.

“I believe that the party’s new leadership was elected to take APC to victory because Nigerians will want APC to continue beyond 2023.

“I believe that is going to happen. So that is the purpose of my visit.

“I came to the headquarters of our great party to pay my respect to the new leadership.

“To show solidarity and assure them of our continued support and prayers during this Ramadan season and this Lenten season.

That God Almighty will guide them to move our party forward,” Akpabio added.
