Pathfinder International says Nigerian citizens must organise sustained action and demand a health agenda from political candidates, and elected officials, primarily as the 2023 elections draw near.

The Country Director of Pathfinder International, Dr. Amina Dorayi, who made the statement in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital, confirmed that “Politics of health can facilitate better health outcomes when there is citizen inclusion in decision-making at all levels of our political landscape.”

According to the group, the event-themed “Politics and political interests can facilitate or deter health policy reforms,” is a great way to achieve a demographic dividend through universal health coverage.

She reiterated that Pathfinder is working “to advance the health and well-being of women, young people, and communities.

They have experienced firsthand the influence of political interests in shaping how states adopt policies related to women’s health.”

She added that the Politics of women’s health is related to the politics of power and gender equality and governance inequalities at all levels.
