Candidate for the Kano South Senatorial district under the platform of the New Nigeria People’s Party, (NNPP), Abdulrahman Kawu said if elected, his political philosophy will be pegged on the principles of Social Justice, which can help in the mitigation of challenges faced in the State.
Kawu stated this during an interactive session in a media dialogue organized by the Kano state Correspondent’s Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists in Kano state, North Western Nigeria.
He said, he is also set to defeat Senator Ibrahim Gaya of the APC, who is recontesting for the fourth time, despite the party’s power of incumbency in Kano state and at the Federal level.
Kawu said the people of Kano South Senatorial district are clamoring for a better representation, citing the crowd that graced his campaign at Sumaila recently.
“In Kano, the power of incumbency is inconsequential… As far as Kawu Sumaila is concerned, as far as our gubernatorial candidate, Abba Yusuf is concerned, as far as our Grand Commander and presidential candidate, Dr. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso is concerned, Kabiru Gaya and other APC candidates are inconsequential,” he said.
Emphasising social justice, Kawu said most of the agitations and crises bedeviling the country are as results of marginalisation and lacking Social Justice
“My take on legislative agenda is to have Social Justice because it leads to equitable distribution of resources, which invariably reduces crisis Exclusion leads to crisis.
“I will ensure Social Justice in three areas; Education, health and water resources.
He said with proper legislation and implementation, the regular campaign promises for empowerment will no longer be a priority because there will be equitable distribution of resources for all to benefit.
“If you promote social justice through legislation, there will be no need to distribute pumping machines to Farmers.
“The legislations will ensure that there is enough water for drinking and those into Agriculture to farm at affordable cost, considering the fact that my Senatorial district has 10 out of the 17 dams in Kano, the rural roads will be revitalised for farmers to take their produce to the market at a lower cost.
Similarly, the crisis in the education and health sectors will be resolved and be made to become more qualitative and available at a cheaper rate with innovations,” he explained.
He added that ’’As a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria he will ensure that there is Social Justice for the benefit of all irrespective of tribe, ethnicity and religion.
Here in Kano, I Will make sure there is a powerful Consultative Forum headed by me that will project our interest and ensure we get our fair share of democratic dividends from the federal level.”
In the meeting, we will emphasize on the need to understand the relationship between western education and Islam to engender peace in the country.
I will support the creation of state police, through its removal from the exclusive list to the concurrent list.
