Nigeria’s Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, is seeking the support of the Senate Caucus of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in his aspiration for the 2023 presidential ticket of the party.
VP Osinbajo had dinner with the APC Caucus at the breaking of fast on Tuesday evening at his official residence, Akinola Aguda House, and interacted with the senators as he made his intentions known.
President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, who spoke with State House correspondents after the meeting, said they discussed government issues and the vice president’s declaration to run for the presidency next year.
“Naturally, the vice president would tell us he has expressed his interest and wants to consult with our caucus, the Senate APC Caucus.
“He wanted us to hear from him, and that we did. He was seeking our support in whatever way we can, and we wish the vice president, His Excellency, good luck in this endeavour.”
Senator Lawan said that the Senate APC Caucus and the National Assembly Caucus of the APC would continue to work hard to ensure that the APC provides services for Nigerians.
He also said that they would ensure that the next administration is an APC administration at the centre and in a majority of the states.
Prof. Osinbajo on Monday declared his interest in the 2023 presidential election in Nigeria, stating that the past seven years that he has worked with President Muhammadu Buhari have equipped him with the experience to serve the country as president.
