The National leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC and presidential aspirant, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has submitted his expression of interest and nomination forms to APC Officials in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
The former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal and a delegation made of Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu and James Faleke submitted the forms on behalf of Mr Tinubu.
According to Lawal, the APC National Leader will support whoever emerges as the winner of the party’s presidential primary election if it is a fair contest.
He added that Mr Tinubu and his team were one hundred per cent ready to go to the polls for the APC Presidential primary on 30th May.
“He’s a democrat. Every politician should not be afraid of the election because the probability is two: either you win or lose. So if we lose at the convention we go back home, lick our wounds and prepare to support the winner if he emerges in a free and fair manner.
“Well, we feel elated that today we’ve come to submit the winning form and we have complied with one of the major requirements of the party for contesting for the presidency on the platform of APC. We’ve done all that is required we’ve submitted all the required documents as you can see we have received our acknowledgement copy and we’re confident victory will be ours come 30th May during the convention,“ Lawal said.
Speaking on President Buhari’s order to government appointees to resign from their positions before running for any elective positions, Mr Lawal said the instruction is no threat to his principal.
“How can it be a threat? The more the merrier. We are democrats and we believe that if there are one million contestants on the platform of APC we will carry a majority of the delegates at the convention. So the more the merrier, they are all welcome.“
Another APC Presidential Aspirant to beat the new deadline of 13th May for submission of forms is Mr Tunde Bakare.
Mr Bakare who has contested for the presidency previously advised presidential aspirants contesting in the primary to obey the rules.
He was also optimistic about his chances to win the contest.
“My chances are as bright as that of any person. I’ve eminently qualified either age or experience or everything that counts in this race. And I trust God that I will emerge the winner,“ Bakare said.
Over 30 aspirants will be vying for the APC Presidential ticket on 30th May at a special National Convention where the primary will be held.
However, many of them are still yet to meet the guidelines of the party such as beating the deadline for form submission and scaling the screening process.
Among those contesting for the ticket are Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the Minister of State Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajuiba, Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Ameachi, Minister of State Petroleum, Timipre Sylva, Governor of Ebonyi state, David Umahi among others.
