The gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Redemption Party, PRP, in Kano state,  Tanko Yakasai has declared that his party can win elections in 2023.

Yakasai stated this during the 2023 Dialogue Series with politicians, organised by Kano NUJ Correspondents’ Chapel.

He said PRP, a party formed in 1978, which aimed to win the election in 1979, is not a new nor small party, stressing that recent mobilisation across the 44 LGAs has re-awakened the winning spirit of the party among members.

“We have reminded the people that PRP is still alive, and they have promised to vote for us.

“I am not afraid of the big political parties. Nigerians are tired of APC and PDP; they want a change. Nigerians, this time, are ready to vote for individual credibility, not big political parties.”

He said PRP is competent and can win elections in Kano State, mainly because of the large youth followership.

According to him, the level of preparedness by the nation’s electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and the new Electoral law, has made rigging elections almost impossible in the country and has also given members hope.

“We are also reaching out to the huge voting demography of the youths, and they have assured us of their votes and support. It is also essential to highlight that over 97 percent of PRP candidates are youths.

“We are also happy because of the Electoral Act. I commend President Muhammadu Buhari for signing it into law. Now, it will be difficult to rig elections in Nigeria.

“I am assuring the people that they will surely get what they vote for. If they vote for me, they will get me as their governor,” he said.

Yakasai said his manifesto is anchored on Vision 2033 to make Kano a center of commercial excellence in West Africa.

He added that the blueprint of the vision aims at boosting Kano’s economy through Public Private Partnership, PPP, infrastructural development, concentration on modernised primary education, primary healthcare, industrialisation, agriculture, peace and security, Internally Generated Revenue drive, youth and women empowerment, the welfare of civil servants, as well as the entire reformation of the public sector, including the judiciary.

According to the candidate, his government will not only ensure that Kano has its airline, just like Akwa Ibom state. Still, it will also strive to create the Ministry of Energy to generate enough power supply for domestic and industrial use.

If elected, Yakasai said his government would not abandon any uncompleted project meaningful to the masses, particularly the proposed light rail project, which he described as very important for an economical city like Kano.
