The Umuekumenyi Christian Association Religious Group in Ebonyi State Southeast Nigeria has supported the Gubernatorial Candidate for the platform of the Young Progressive Party YPP, Dr. Sunday Opoke.
Reports state that the support was to ensure that the next Governor of the State is someone like Opoke, who has a fear of God so that the masses will rejoice.
Different Churches in the State approved the endorsement led by their National President, Reverend Joseph Nwibo, the overseer of the Nigeria Reform Church, Abakaliki, the State capital.
Reverend Nwibo said anyone who will be the next Governor must be a man who fears God. “Opoke is non-violence, and he seeks for peace everywhere he goes. I believe he will bring peace to Ebonyi State and Nigeria at large,” Nwibo added.
” The YPP Candidate is one of us. He is an ordained Evangelist, has traveled the world; therefore, he has the exposure, the competencies and a character worthy of Emulation,” Nwibo added.
He said Dr. Opoke would do well in making Ebonyi State peaceful.
Moreso, Reverend Paul Philip said Nigerians, especially Politicians, should consider how to use their position to bring everlasting peace to the Country and in Ebonyi State. Rather than using the same position to bring crisis and war among brothers.
Reverend Paul also decried the non-implementation of the Crisis Reports and Recommendations from various committees set for that purpose.
He expressed worry over the many inter and intra-communal crises in the State.
Also, one of the respected Elders in Umuekumenyi, a Permanent Secretary in the State, Dr. Chris Achi, urged the Christian Association to use its capacity to end all the communal wars in the State.
The YPP Governor Candidate Dr. Sunday Opoke who gave a brief history of Umuekumenyi, urged all Ebonyi people, especially the Umuekumenyi axis, to support him becoming the next Governor of the State.
“I call on Ezza, Izzi, Ikwo, Afikpo North, Afikpo South and Ohanivo to give me support in becoming the Governor. Everybody’s support is highly needed.
“We can cannot exist without each other; we need collaboration as Umuekumenyi to win this forthcoming election,” he said.
Opoke also visited Izzi Medical Association, where he also received their blessings.
The President of the Medical Association, Dr. Ovuoba Chukwuemeka, promised that the Association would also give their support.
