2024 MTN Spelling Bee Competition: Ikenna Ikechukwu Emerges Winner

Ikenna Ikechukwu of Glorious Covenant School, Rivers State, emerged as the winner of the 2024 edition of the annual MTN Nigeria mPulse Spelling Bee Competition.

The MTN mPulse Spelling Bee is a spelling competition organised for students between the ages of 9 and 15, to promote educational excellence among Nigerian students.

The grand finale took place at the MTN Plaza Rooftop in Lagos on Saturday. As the winner, Ikechukwu will receive an education fund of ₦5 million, a smartphone, a laptop, and the opportunity to serve as MTN Nigeria’s CEO for a day.

In his remarks, Ikechukwu expressed gratitude to his parents, teachers, school, and MTN Nigeria for the opportunity. “A special thanks to MTN for this amazing platform that helps students play, learn, and shine. This opportunity has been truly life-changing,” he said.

MTN Nigeria’s Chief Risk and Compliance Officer, Ms Obiageri Ugboma, highlighted the participation of around 40,000 students in the 2024 competition. She commended the 20 finalists for their exceptional efforts, describing the event as a celebration of resilience and role modelling for peers. She reiterated MTN’s commitment to education and nurturing young talent, stating that the mPulse Spelling Bee reflects the organisation’s belief in empowering the next generation.

The General Manager, Consumer Segment, MTNN, Mr Idowu Adesola, in his closing remarks, reinforced MTN’s dedication to fostering and supporting young talents.

The winner’s prizes include a fully equipped ICT lab with 10 laptops and MTN 5G routers for his school, as well as a ₦500,000 cash prize for his teacher.

The second and third-place winners, Master Ayomide Ibigbemi and Miss Munachimso Opara, received ₦2 million and ₦1 million respectively, along with laptops and smartphones. The remaining 17 finalists were awarded ₦200,000 each as an educational fund.

The 2024 mPulse Spelling Bee, now in its fifth year, continues to promote educational excellence among Nigerian students.
