Katsina state ministry of budget and economic planning has rounded up budget defense exercise it organized for all MInistries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) in the state.
The exercise which is an annual event in the state was conducted at Old Government House in Katsina to receive 2025 budget proposals from all the state’s MDAs to be presented to the state Governor, Malam Dikko Radda for approval and subsequent presentation to the state’s House of Assembly.
The commissioner of Budget and economic planning, Hussaini Bello Kagara who chaired the exercise, said the exercise is among the steps in the processes of budget development that the ministry undergoes towards the presentation of state budget to the state assembly annually.
Proposal compilation
He said the next step to undergo by the ministry is the compilation of the proposals received from the MDAs and present to the state Governor for his approval.
“This process is not the last one, we are going to re invite all the MDAs who presented their capital programmes here, without clear approval of the governor to come and defend them selves before the governor for his approval before we include the proposals in the budget”, Kagara maintained.
He pointed out that the state government has planned to complete all the ongoing projects that were already started, saying that any project that is ongoing must be completed before the new ones be started.
“Projects that have been put in in 2024 budget and have not been started, and by considered opinion of the MDAs base on government priorities and agreement of the Governor, projects that have not been commenced between now and December we are going to recycle them in the next year’s budget  if they are of importance to government”, Kagara added.
The commissioner called on MDAs in the state to expedite actions towards improving their internally generated revenue (IGR) in order to give the state government more opportunities towards implementing a sound budget that will be of value to the socio economic development of the state.
“Our revenue bases from FAAC, IGR, Capital receipts are key indicators in terms of inflow of funds that determine what we implement in the budget.
”We encourage our MDAs  that generate revenue to positively increase their revenue base”, Kagara charged.
