Nigerian youths have been urged to support peace, unity and security as imperatives for local and national economic growth.

The Chief of Staff to the Cross River State Governor, Emmanuel Ironbar, made the call during an interaction with residents of Calabar, the capital of Cross River State, southern Nigeria.

Ironbar, who was excited about the reception given him as the member of the community and representative of Governor Bassey Otu, appreciated the people for supporting the Otu-led administration, including the development programmes of his wife, Eyoanwan.

He urged youths to steer clear of violence, emphasizing its detrimental impact on the state’s development and potential for attracting foreign investments.

According to him, “Governor Otu has invested a lot to reposition Cross River State since his assumption of office and we are beginning to see the results. In every community today, there is evidence that this administration is doing something great.

“Also, the wife of the governor, Mrs. Eyoanwan Otu, has, through her pet projects, reached out to communities, especially women and children, to ensure we all feel the impact of government. She has held several medical outreaches in communities where thousands have benefited and will still do more.”

Continuing, the governor’s aide remarked, “One thing that would hinder growth of any kind is violence. We must condemned all forms of violence. We need peace and unity to create a conducive environment for economic growth and employment opportunities.

“Our focus in 2025 will be on implementing more empowerment projects that align with Nigerian President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda and our administration’s ‘People First’ mantra.”

The Chief of Staff further called on those appointed to leadership positions to embrace a spirit of brotherliness by catering to the needs of others in their communities, noting “dedication and hard work as essential ingredients for building a stronger Cross River economy.”

He commended Governor Otu for distributing food stuff to communities irrespective of political affiliations and urged that the items be judiciously and peacefully distributed amongst the people to avoid stampede.

The All Progressives Congress chapter and Ward 10 chairmen, women leaders, the council of elders forum, traditional rulers, and youth leaders, in separate goodwill messages, commended Governor Otu for the donation of food stuff.

They pledged to imbue the principles of hard work, peace, unity and love, as well as continue to support the development programmes of the Cross River State and Nigerian government.
