Political stakeholders from Kwara North Senatorial District, have intensified their demand for the governorship seat of Kwara State in 2027, insisting that power must rotate in the spirit of fairness and equity.

The stakeholders, drawn from across political parties, met in Ilorin at the GRA residence on the convener, Senator Mohammed Ahmed, where they resolved to present a united front ahead of the next general election.

In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the leaders said the time was ripe for Kwara North to produce the next governor, describing the demand as “highly desirable” after years of marginalisation.

“The meeting reiterated its stand on the need for Kwara North Senatorial District to be given the opportunity of producing the next State Governor. Kwara North for Governor 2027 is highly desirable,” the communiqué read in part.

They acknowledged and appreciated the efforts of traditional rulers and youth groups for sustaining the agitation, noting that only unity and consistency would guarantee success.

The stakeholders, however, emphasised the need to reach out to leaders in Kwara Central and Kwara South Senatorial Districts for consultations and alliances, stating that “power is never served a la carte.”

Committee

To drive the 2027 agenda, the meeting resolved to set up a high-powered committee to address political and developmental issues affecting the district and to frame a clear strategy for engagement across the state.

In a move to avoid factionalism, the forum also agreed that all agitations for the Kwara North governorship project must be centralised under one leadership to strengthen coordination and prevent the emergence of multiple groups.

They called for the institutionalisation of a formal zoning arrangement among the three senatorial districts to guarantee fairness and stability in the political process.

Security

On security, the meeting condemned the recent armed bandit attacks in Kaiama and Baruten local government areas, commiserated with the affected communities, and prayed for the repose of the souls of those who lost their lives.

The forum also commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his prompt intervention by visiting the affected areas alongside heads of security agencies.

The communiqué was signed by the convener of the meeting, Senator Mohammed Ahmed.
