2030 World Cup: Morocco Joins Spain, Portugal Joint Bid
Morocco will join Spain and Portugal in a bid to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup, which raises further doubts over Ukraine’s participation in the bid.
The announcement on Tuesday was made through a statement signed by Mohammed VI, the King of Morocco and read at a meeting of the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

“HM King Mohammed VI announced, on Tuesday in Kigali, Morocco’s candidacy, jointly with Spain and Portugal, to host the 2030 World Cup,” the Royal Moroccan Football Federation announced on Twitter.
The bid looks attractive given the distance between Morocco and Spain, which is just about 1331.4 km.
The Spain-Morocco-Portugal 2030 World Cup bid faces stiff competition from the quartet of Argentina,-Chile-Paraguay-Uruguay. There is also the expected Saudi Arabia-Greece-Egypt bid.
The winner of the bid will be announced in 2024.
In 2002, Japan and South Korea shared the competition. In 2026, the tournament will be played in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
The 2026 World Cup will expand from 32 teams to 48 and, under the format FIFA announced, will stretch to 104 matches, up from 64 in Qatar last year.
