$2m Bribery Allegation: EFCC Responds To Zamfara Governor

Nigeria’s Anti-graft Agency, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has reacted to a bribery allegation comments made by the Zamfara State Governor Bello Matawalle gainst the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Mr. Abdulrasheed Bawa of demanding $2m Bribe from him.

Governor Matawalle made the allegations in his interview with BBC Hausa service.

In a reaction, the Anti-graft Agency through a statement by its spokesperson Mr. Wilson Uwujaren said, despite Governor Matawalle’s claims, the Commission is into investigation of the case.

“If Matawalle will be taken seriously, he should go beyond sabre-rattling by spilling the beans – provide concrete evidence as proof of his allegations.”

Uwujaren alleged that, some politicians were planning to leave the country ahead of May 29 handing over to a new government.

The Commission wishes to alert the public about plans by some of the alleged corrupt politically exposed persons to flee the country ahead of May 29.

He said the Commission was working in close collaboration with its international partners to prevent these escape plans and bring those involved to justice.
