A major operation conducted by a joint task force comprising Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA Brigade) and the Federal Government of Nigeria’s Presidential Task Force Against Economic Sabotage and Oil Vandalism has led to the seizure of goods worth ₦200 million and arrest of seven suspects in connection with an illegal wine production facility in Onitsha, Anambra State.

The facility, known as Aliban, was found to be producing counterfeit alcoholic beverages, including popular brands such as Classic Heaven, Baron Devanis, and Hennessy.

The raid, which followed credible intelligence, uncovered makeshift factories within packing stores and warehouses where a variety of alcoholic drinks were being manufactured, packaged, and distributed.

Over 2,000 cartons of wines and packaged drinks were seized during the operation, along with equipment used in the production process. Authorities have urged consumers to remain vigilant when purchasing alcoholic beverages to avoid unknowingly buying counterfeit products.

The state coordinator of the Federal Government’s task force emphasized the importance of combating economic sabotage and praised the efforts of the enforcement officers in uncovering this illegal operation. Some of the suspects apprehended during the raid claimed to be employees of the factory, expressing remorse for their involvement and pleading for leniency.

The successful raid serves as a reminder of the ongoing efforts to crack down on the production and distribution of fake goods in Anambra State and underscores the importance of consumer awareness in combating illicit activities in the market.
