The Nigerian Government has Reaffirmed it’s commitment to boosting Electricity Supply with a view to reviving industrial revolution and enhancing the Nations Economy.
The Country’s Minister of Power, Mr. Adebayo Adelabu, made the commitment in Kano state North West Nigeria, at a stakeholders meeting with the Kano Electricity Distribution Company KEDCO.
He explained that, the engagement with critical stakeholders, was aimed at identifying and tackle challenges hindering optimal performance of electricity supply.
Adelabu emphasized the need to revamp the transmission architecture, which currently relies heavily on Shiroro and Jos channels.
“This radial system leaves the northern region vulnerable to electricity disruptions whenever issues arise with these lines.”
To mitigate this, Adelabu advocated for establishing independent power sources within state metropolises to support the national grid.”
The Minister stressed the need for exploring alternative power sources to serve as backups to the National Grid with a view to curtail future occurrences of collapse of the National Grid.
“This proactive approach aims to ensure that the region is prepared for any eventuality, including vandalism or national grid collapse.”
Adelabu recognizes the crucial roles various stakeholders play in achieving the objectives.
The Minister took time to visit some power sub-station in the Northern Commercial city.
