LG Polls: Election Commences Across 20 LGAs, 37 LCDAs in Lagos

Voting has commenced in the Local government elections in Lagos State south-west Nigeria.

Residents observed the restrictions imposed for the elections taking place across the 20 Local Government Areas (LGAs) and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).

The restriction on the vehicular was announced to run from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., allowing essential commuters limited access while maintaining security during the polling period.

Voice of Nigeria earlier combed through some parts of the state, mainly Ketu, Ojota, Oworoshoki, Ogudu and Lagos Island with visible police checkpoints observed,.as officers were being deployed at strategic locations, while major roads across the state remained unusually calm and traffic almost non-existent.

VON also visited St. Stephen polling unit at Adenij Adele Lagos Island, where the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu is expected to cast his ballot.

Over 20,000 law enforcement officers, including members of the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), Anti-Cultism, and other security agencies have been stationed at various polling units to ensure a peaceful electoral process.

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, earlier urged residents to participate actively and peacefully in the elections.

He emphasised the crucial role local governments play in delivering essential services and fostering grassroots development.

As at the time of filling this report l, voters were seen walking into the polling arena in trickles to exercise their franchise.
