64th Independence: ACCI Congratulates Nigerians And The Business Communities 

President of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Dr Emeka Obegolu has called upon the government to implement initiatives that foster friendly business policies, particularly for the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) sector, which is vital for Nigeria’s economic growth.

He made the call in commemoration with Nigeria’s 64th independence in light of President Bola Tinubu’s Independence Day broadcast.

Dr Obegolu congratulated Nigerians and the business community in the Federal Capital Territory and surrounding areas, emphasizing the crucial role of SMEs in driving economic development.

He urged all levels of government to adopt lasting measures to address the challenges faced by the business sector, stating that without a thriving SME sector, Nigeria’s economic growth will continue to stagger.

The ACCI boss highlighted the need for policymakers and stakeholders to prioritize the interests of the business community by providing essential infrastructure and creating an enabling environment adding that the current economic situation is not conducive for entrepreneurs, and immediate action is required to support their efforts.

Addressing taxation, Dr Obegolu stressed that it is imperative to revise tax policies to ensure that local producers are not overburdened, which can stifle their growth.

“As a foremost Chamber of Commerce, we are deeply committed to the development of the SME sector, which we consider the engine of our economy. We urge the government to take decisive steps that will enable our SMEs to compete on a level playing field with their counterparts in developed countries.”

He also encouraged the youth to embrace skill acquisition and entrepreneurship, highlighting its importance for personal empowerment and economic contribution.

“Skill acquisition is key to becoming self-sufficient and creating job opportunities for others,” he stated.
